Finishing Touches
I started going to Tender Buttons back when I was in design school. It was the only sure bet for finding the most unique special buttons and trims that no one else was going to have. Evidently, the shop hasn’t lost any of its integrity since it opened doors in 1968, by co-founder Millicent Safro.
Whereas most products and commodities have been sadly reduced to just that, products and commodities, Tender Buttons has continued to collect and sort through the world’s bits and bobs to offer up a beautiful treasure trove of unique pieces to savor. Men and women alike can find choice nuggets to update and finish everything from top coats and blazers to dresses and handbags.
While the prices have quite a range, from pennies to $1000′s for a single button, its unlikely that anyone will leave empty handed.
Tender Buttons is open Monday through Saturday at 143 East 62nd Street, New York City, near Lexington Ave; 212-758-7004.
