Grahame Fowler Menswear New York | The Find
Grahame Fowler’s menswear shop is the kind of find that makes you stop and say “how come I didn’t know about this before”, when you happen upon it. Only open since last summer, I don’t feel too awful for just now learning about it (to be honest, my friend Michael of Wonderland gave me the tip).
In any case, you owe it to yourself to pay Mr. Fowler a visit as soon as you can.
Not just the name on the door, Grahame Fowler is both the designer and proprietor of his namesake shop. Truly a person who proudly stands behind, and alongside, his product.
Mr. Fowler, in his shop- characteristically cool and relaxed
All made in the immediate New York City area, the line consists of hand-made shirts, jackets, trousers, suits, and ties. All using the most wonderful fabrics from England, Italy and Japan and tailored with care, achieving a relaxed elegance. Mr. Fowler describes the collection as “a mix of tailored/working/military/function-at-the-junction mélange”.
For quite a small shop, you could find yourself milling around for an hour or two. Amongst the vintage scooters, furniture, and photos, you’ll find a collection of finely curated accessories such as, vintage Rolex watches, belts and bags, shoes and hats. You name it, it’s probably in there somewhere. And speaking of scooters; the vintage Lambretta out front isn’t a prop. It’s actually Mr. Fowler’s every-day transportation to work.
Shirts hanging from the shop’s dry cleaning turnstile- a bit of urban archaeology from the building’s previous owner.
