Kidrobot Collaborations
Kidrobot, the great collaborative hub, has always done a great job reaching out and working with creative types not usually associated with designer “toys” such as Kidrobot’s menagerie of Japanese-style vinyls. The relationships are certainly mutually-beneficial as the coolness factor goes both ways.
One of my personal favorites is the dunny-style from the British fashion designer Paul Smith (above) from a few years back- 2006. I recently came across one of the 1000 produced going for well over $200 on ebay.
The above limited edition set of 3-inch figures was released to celebrate the hip-hop group’s debut album 3-Feet High and Rising. I get it, I get it, 3-Inch figures/ 3 Feet High and Rising. Those clever musicians!
The signature monkey from Paul Frank, the American artist and fashion designer.
Ed “Bid Daddy” Roth’s Rat Fink
The Gorillaz- Perfectly suited for such a medium, although a “real” band, they’ve cultivated their public persona as “animated”.
Tokidoki’s Skeletrino, Adios, Bastadino, and SANDy vinyl Frenzies
Italian artist Simone Legno’s work at Tokidoki has always been character-based, but once he connected with the Kidrobot machine to create 3D versions of his portfolio there’s been a non-stop flow of his creatures in all shapes and sizes. He’s currently out there with a collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld (below).
Frank Kozik’s Smorkin’ Labbit (see the below video- Smorkin’ Labbit Get’s A Tattoo)
Even though Frank Kozik is more typically the type of artist associated with Kidrobot (graphic artist), it felt wrong leaving him out of the post. You just have to love that foul-mouthed little smoking bunny.
