Photoshop? Great Art Direction | The New York Times
Again with the theme of “quality art being all around us”, sometimes it’s actually thrown into our driveways (or piled in a stack at the newsstand). Published first in 2004 (approx. 14 times per year), The New York Times Style Magazine is always adorned with a cover that stops you in your tracks. Most magazine covers are merely there to give you a glimpse of what is inside and to interest you long enough to pick it up. The NYT Style Magazine cover art is a main interest in and of itself- usually as good as the article to which it’s enticing you.
And the question always comes to mind, “Is that real or Photoshop?” Sometimes it’s meant to be obvious, but most of the time you’re left assuming that each piece is commissioned art- and a lot of the time it is. Through great art direction, photography, sculpture, painting, food preparation, and digital manipulation, we end up with some beautiful 9″ x 11″ pieces of art.
