Japan Blue | Japanese Indigo Patterns
Definitely one of my favorite pattern reference books in my collection is Japan Blue. I found it some years ago at Hennessey & Ingalls in Santa Monica. Besides being a great historical reference of Japanese indigo printing and dying techniques over the past couple centuries, I love the patterns and natural indigo shades- and it comes with a CD with all the high res files.
The introduction is chock full of fascinating indigo history and information- written by Nakamura Miyuki of the Antique Mall Ginza (a spot on my list of places to visit next time in Japan).
Not having seen the book in quite a while, I thought it was out of print and subsequently had vanished from stores, but I came across it recently on Amazon- for anyone interested, I linked the below cover pic to the corresponding shop page. Enjoy!
