The 4:30 Movie
Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty in Bonnie & Clyde
As a young boy growing up in the 1970′s and 80′s in the New York area, ABC’s The 4:30 Movie was a staple for my afternoons after school. Whether it was Plant of the Apes, various war movies, James Bond marathons, the original Batman movies, or King Kong vs Godzilla, they all had my attention. It didn’t matter that they were old and all predated my existence- they were all new to me.
I loved the tough guy movies the best- Bridge On The River Kwai, The Great Escape, every James Bond with Sean Connery, Steve McQueen’s Bullitt, Bonnie And Clyde, and on and on. The guys were so damn cool and girls were so damn, well… awesome.
That catchy 4:30 Movie opener
James Coburn and Gila Golan in Our Man Flint
Double Coolness: Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in The Thomas Crown Affair
Ann Margaret in The Swingers and 70′s promo shot
William Holden in The Bridge on the River Kwai
Sean Connery and Ursula Andress in Dr. No
Steve McQueen in The Great Escape- quite possibly my favorite movie. (Whenever I watch it, I feel he might actually make over the border this time).

They don’t make movie stars like that anymore.
I have to agree- pretty great.
WHOA! I totally forgot about that intro and yeah i have to agree the quality and caliber of movies back in the day do not compare to the crap put out there now.
Yeah, I loved that intro. It just wouldn’t have been the same without it!
