Ebay Time Machine | Rolling Stone Oct. 5, 1978
Ebay is the ultimate time machine. Where else could a person just type in what they’re looking for from a specific place and time and actually have their wish granted? Ok, it’s not exactly a sure thing- but, if you’re patient, sooner or later you’ll find it- as with this Rolling Stone magazine from 1978. I had been looking for this particular ’78 Rolling Stone because it contained the last interview with Keith Moon. A few occasional Ebay visits finally paid off – and for a mere $9.52 (plus S&H), it was mine.
The beauty of any sizable publication from a bygone era, it acts a bit like society’s time capsule. Little snapshots of the good, the bad, and the ugly- (no comment on the above Lee ad).
It must have been tough for women in the late 70′s. “The fit is so snug and provocative- it’s downright sinful”. And “Chances are, you’ll have to beat the girls off.” So, these pants made guys sinful, provocative and violent. Awesome…
The woman in the above Camel ad looks to be very happy with her rugged man. (Nice fitting pants there, Magnum P.I.).
Icons of the day- The Village People
Icon of every day- Muddy Waters
The Who- classic rock’s brilliant misfits. Ironically, by the time this issue of Rolling Stone hit the newsstands, a month had already passed since Keith Moon’s death (Sept. 7, 1978), but with the printing and delivery lag time of the day, the magazine had already been produced and shipped.
Hard to believe that in 32 years, a year’s subscription to Rolling Stone has only increased $1.95 to the current $19.95/year. What a deal!

Hey man, I might have a hook up for you on some old who featured magazines. I’ll get back to you when I know for sure they are still there.
