Transglass | Sustainable Design
Transglass is the love child of the product design team of Tord Boontje & Emma Woffenden. Dutch-born and based in London, the pair design using reclaimed and reused base materials to create glassware, lighting and furniture.
**As an update to my original post, the above two photos of the Transglass candles were passed along to me by the newest friend of The First Few, Gabriella of http://designmouth.org/ Gabriella was representing Artecnica at the recent New York International Gift Fair and was kind enough to share the news about Transglass’ foray into candles. Thanks Gabbi!
This particular assortment is from Transglass’ home collection and obviously made using assorted recycled bottles to create glasses, pitchers, and vases. The mix of colors is fantastic. I think I’ll need to buy a few of each!
When I was growing up, my father used to cut off the bottoms of wine bottles to use as glasses for the novelty of it. Using a glass cutter and sandpaper, the results were not as refined, but we all thought they were very cool indeed.
Transglass can be found through various design/artisan web shops. Here are a few that I found to be interesting:
