Hang Tags come in every shape and size imaginable. They are the elements of retail products that get little fanfare but are labored over by graphic artists with the hope of catching a customer’s attention, inform the customer of the amazing attributes of the garment, and generally create a little billboard for some brand recognition. No one knows for sure if they are completely successful in their quest, but I know that I notice them- and like all designers, I hold onto most that come my way.
When sitting down to design new hang tags or give examples to graphics artists, you can’t beat having a back catalog of fine paper qualities and techniques to help paint the picture.
Maybe a bit geeky of me, but I actually like to read the tags that have company information about the heritage and story behind the making the product which I’ve purchased.
Some come with a little “Gift-With-Purchase”, like from Tokidoki. Modern Amusement goes all out to make sure the customer notices that extra button. I guess that Ziploc is to keep the design fresh?
For technical outerwear and functional layering pieces, the hang tags serve a very real purpose in informing the customers of the many ways their new garments will perform and how best to take care of their special fabrics.
